Artificial intelligence is changing the world of video editing. AI-enabled video editing software is fast, and efficient, and learns from you.
No matter how efficient your current video editing software is, AI will make it even more so.
AI-enabled video editors are now available as add-ons for Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, and other popular video editing programs.
They’re also being built into new versions of these programs such as Adobe Rush CC and Avid Everywhere that are powered by the latest artificial intelligence techniques such as natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, and speech recognition.
However, there are a lot of AI-enabled video editing tools out there that aren’t quite ready for prime time.
It’s best to wait until more reviews come in before making any purchases or investments in AI-enabled video editing software.

1. Script Recognition with Natural Language Processing
The first feature you’ll want to look for is the ability to recognize and interpret a script.
With NLP, you can drag and drop video clips with transcriptions into your editing timeline and the AI will automatically recognize the script and create the audio from the transcript as well as generate keywords and captions.
A good AI-enabled video editing program will allow you to add multiple scripts to your project and see them in a single view like a table of contents.
If the script is in Microsoft Word format, the AI will be able to read the script and use the keywords from the script to find the related video clips.
You’ll need to be careful that the AI program does not slow down your computer too much.
When a program is reading a script and searching for clips, it can cause a slight delay.
For example, an Adobe Premiere Pro add-on with an NLP script recognition feature takes about one second to read a script and find the video clips.
2. Computer Vision Editing
With computer vision editing, the AI looks at the picture and audio of the video clip and analyzes the scene.
The AI can then recommend changes to the clip and even suggest new video clips that might go better with the current scene.
For example, let’s say you’re trying to replace a video of an actor walking down a city street with a video clip of an actor walking down a country road.
The computer vision-enabled AI will recognize that the city and country road scenes are very different and will suggest a video clip that goes better with the current scene.
If you have a green screen in your video, some AI-enabled video editing programs can automatically remove the green screen and replace it with any scene in the video.
This is helpful if you’re trying to make actors fit into other scenes that don’t match their original locations.
3. Free Templates
A good AI-enabled video editing program will give you access to prebuilt video templates such as sports highlights, weather forecasts, real estate sales pitches, and more.
In addition, many AI-enabled video editing programs allow you to create your own video templates for reuse.
For example, let’s say you’re creating a commercial for your landscaping business.
You can use the AI-enabled environment to create a landscaping commercial template and reuse that same template for each commercial you create.
The commercial template will contain general information about your landscaping business, images of your products, and a script that can be customized for each customer.
With some AI-enabled video editing programs, you can even select a weather forecast for the next day and the AI will create a custom weather forecast video template for your business that matches the forecast for your city.
4. Automatic Color Correction
With automatic color correction, the AI will analyze each scene and make adjustments to color, saturation, and other visual aspects of the video.
This will help unify the look of your video and make it look more professional.
For example, let’s say you’re editing a video of a sales presentation and the presenter is wearing a red shirt.
If you don’t notice the shirt color, the sales presentation might look unprofessional and the viewers might think the presenter is unprofessional as well.
The AI-enabled video editing software will notice the shirt color and suggest a color correction to reduce the redness in the video.
You can also use the AI-enabled color correction to change the overall look and feel of the video by selecting different presets or choosing the color correction controls and entering precise numbers.
5. Object and Scene Recognition
This AI feature will recognize the scenes in your video and also recognize objects such as buildings, people, vehicles, and more.
You can then use the AI to find other videos that have the same objects and even edit the current video to blend in with the new video.
For example, let’s say you’re editing a video of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and you want to add a video clip of the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas to the Paris video.
The Paris video will recognize the Eiffel Tower in the video and the Vegas video will recognize the Eiffel Tower in the Paris video.
For the Eiffel Towers to blend together, the Paris video editing software must be AI-enabled.
The Vegas video editing software must be AI-enabled as well and both programs must be communicating with each other.
6. Object Animation
With object animation, you can select objects in the video and the AI will create an animation from the selected object.
For example, let’s say you’re editing a video of people eating a hamburger and you want the hamburger to be animated and moving around the table as if it’s being eaten.
You can select the hamburger in the video, choose the object animation feature, select the type of animation for the hamburger (walking, crawling, etc.) and the AI will create the animation for you.
The AI will also be able to identify all the hamburgers in the video and create the same animation for each one.
7. Object Removal and Blending
This feature allows you to remove an object from the video and replace it with another object.
For example, let’s say you’re editing a video of a person walking down the street and you want the person to disappear and be replaced with a car.
The car must be in the video and the AI-enabled video editing software will find the car. The car must also be AI-enabled.
The object removal and blending feature also work when you want to remove an object from one video and replace it with an object from another video.
For example, let’s say you’re editing a weather forecast video for your business and you want to use a different weather forecast video.
You can remove the weather forecast video from the original video and replace it with the new forecast video.
8. Scene Analysis and Recommendation
With scene analysis, the AI looks at the entire video and segments the video into scenes such as indoor, outdoor, dark, and light.
The AI will then suggest other scenes that might go better with the current scene.
For example, let’s say you’re editing a video of a business presentation indoors and the AI suggests that the current scene would go better with an outdoor scene.
You can tap on the outdoor scene suggestion and the AI-enabled video editing software will change the scene to the outdoor scene and make adjustments to the audio and video based on the outdoor scene.
9. Audio Syncing
The last feature we’ll discuss is audio syncing.
With audio syncing, the AI-enabled video editing software will analyze the audio of the video clip, the audio of the transcript, and the audio of the audio clip.
It will then try to match the audio to create a perfect audio and video sync.
If you’re adding an audio clip with different audio (such as music) to your video, the AI will copy the audio from the video clip and paste it onto the audio clip to create a perfect audio sync.
For example, let’s say you’re editing a video of a business presentation and you want to add background music.
You can drag and drop the audio clip into the video editing software and the software will analyze the audio.
It will then copy the audio from the video clip and paste the audio onto the audio clip.
Bottom Line
Artificial intelligence is changing the world of video editing. AI-enabled video editors are fast, and efficient, and learn from you. No matter how efficient your current video editing software is, AI will make it even more so. There are a lot of AI-enabled video editing tools out there that aren't quite ready for prime time, so it's best to wait until more reviews come in
